Principal Cloud Architect

We are searching for an accomplished Principal Cloud Architect to set the strategic vision for our cloud platforms, lead enterprise-wide architecture initiatives, and mentor a growing community of cloud engineers and architects.

As a Principal Cloud Architect, you will own the end-to-end technical strategy for Inter Systems' cloud portfolio. You will translate complex business goals into future-proof, secure, and compliant cloud architectures, drive adoption of modern practices across multiple product lines, and serve as the trusted technical advisor to senior leadership and key customers. Your influence will span infrastructure, application, data, and security domains, ensuring every solution is scalable, resilient, cost-optimized, and aligned with our corporate objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Define & Govern Cloud Strategy:
Establish enterprise cloud architecture standards, reference architectures, and guardrails that enable rapid innovation while ensuring security, compliance, and operational excellence.

• Architect Mission-Critical Solutions:
Design multi-region, multi-cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP) deployments that meet stringent availability, performance, and regulatory requirements for healthcare workloads.

• Technical Leadership & Mentorship:
Guide and mentor Senior/Lead Cloud Architects and engineering teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, Dev Sec Ops , and Infrastructure as Code.

• Stakeholder Engagement:
Partner with executives, product owners, security, and operations to align roadmaps, articulate trade-offs, and influence investment decisions.

• Innovation & Thought Leadership:
Evaluate emerging technologies (serverless, AI/ML ops, edge, confidential computing, sustainability) and develop proof-of-concepts that inform product direction.

• Governance &

Risk Management:

Own cloud security and compliance architecture for HIPAA, HITRUST, ISO 27001, and SOC 2; drive design reviews, threat modeling, and continuous assurance.

• Optimization & Cost Management:
Implement architectural patterns and Fin Ops practices that optimize resource utilization and reduce the total cost of ownership.

• Documentation & Knowledge Sharing:
Author architecture blueprints, whitepapers, and presentations for both technical and executive audiences; evangelize best practices across the organization.

Required Qualifications

• 10 + years designing and delivering large-scale cloud solutions, with 5 + years in a principal/lead architecture role.

• Deep, hands-on expertise with AWS (preferred) and strong working knowledge of Azure and/or Google Cloud Platform.

• Demonstrated success in architecting highly available, secure, and compliant systems in regulated industries (healthcare, finance, or similar).

• Mastery of cloud networking, container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes/EKS/AKS/GKE), CI/CD, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Cloud Formation, Ansible).

• Proven ability to influence technical direction at the C-suite level while diving deep with engineering teams.

• Exceptional communication, facilitation, and leadership skills; able to simplify complexity for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred) or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• One or more expert-level cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Google Professional Cloud Architect).

• Experience with healthcare interoperability standards (FHIR, HL7) and data protection regulations (HIPAA, GDPR).

• Strong background in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), chaos engineering, or resilience testing.

• Public speaking or authorship in industry forums, conferences, or publications.

• Familiarity with advanced security frameworks (Zero Trust, confidential computing, KMS/HSM integrations).
