Infrastructure Manager | $150,000 to $170,000 + bonus | Boston, MA | Hybrid, 3 days in
We are partnering with a leading professional services organization seeking an Infrastructure Manager to lead an established infrastructure and network engineering function.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced infrastructure professional looking to combine technical leadership, people management and hands-on technical expertise. The role will suit someone with broad knowledge across infrastructure and networking who has developed particular depth in at least one area.
The RoleThe Infrastructure Manager will take responsibility for a team spanning systems infrastructure, networking and telecommunications, providing both technical direction and day-to-day leadership.
The successful candidate does not need to be an expert across every technology. Instead, we are looking for someone with an “inch deep, mile wide” understanding of the broader infrastructure landscape, alongside stronger hands-on expertise developed within either networking, systems or another core infrastructure discipline.
Responsibilities will include:
- Leading and developing a team across infrastructure, networking and telecommunications
- Providing technical direction across the organization's wider infrastructure environment
- Supporting and mentoring engineers while remaining close enough to the technology to provide guidance when required
- Working across networking, servers, virtualization, storage, cloud and associated infrastructure technologies
- Helping establish priorities, technical standards and best practices across the infrastructure function
- Partnering with cloud, security and other technology teams on wider infrastructure initiatives
- Supporting the continued modernization and development of the organization's technology environment
- Identifying opportunities to improve automation, resilience, scalability and operational efficiency
- Managing infrastructure-related projects and ensuring effective delivery across multiple technical areas
- Acting as an escalation point for complex infrastructure issues
- Developing strong relationships with technical teams and wider business stakeholders
The successful candidate will ideally bring:
- 8+ years of infrastructure or network engineering experience, with 10 to 15 years particularly relevant
- Broad technical knowledge across enterprise infrastructure and networking
- Strong hands-on expertise developed within at least one core area, ideally networking or systems infrastructure
- Experience working across technologies such as networking, Windows Server, virtualization, storage and cloud infrastructure
- An understanding of modern cloud environments and how they integrate with traditional enterprise infrastructure
- Previous people management, team leadership or technical leadership experience
- The ability to mentor engineers and provide technical direction across disciplines
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities
- Experience managing infrastructure projects and technical change
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Previous formal people management experience is not essential. We are also interested in experienced engineers, team leads or technical leads who can demonstrate clear examples of mentoring, leadership, technical ownership and influencing others and are ready to step into a broader management position.
Candidates coming from a network engineering background with systems exposure, or a systems infrastructure background with good networking knowledge, could both be highly relevant.
Why Consider This Opportunity? This is an opportunity to take ownership of a broad infrastructure function while remaining connected to the technology.
The position offers a natural progression for an experienced technical professional looking to move further into leadership without stepping completely away from infrastructure. You will inherit an established team while having the opportunity to influence its technical direction and the continued modernization of the wider environment.
