Lead Inventory and Receiving Specialist – Boston Medical Center
Boston Medical Center (BMC) is looking for a Lead Inventory and Receiving Specialist to support the Operating Room with day‑to‑day procurement and replenishment of supplies. This role ensures that supplies are available in the right quantity, at the right location, and at the right time. The position provides customer service to internal and external customers, including surgeons, staff, and vendors.
Key Responsibilities- Manage operating room supplies located in CPD for case cart picking—inventorying, procuring, and replacing supplies daily.
- Collaborate with the OR Materials Manager to identify and communicate supply chain procurement orders, ensuring adequate stock at all times.
- Supervise two material aids in restocking and delivering supplies to CPD, the main operating room, and other designated areas.
- Maintain and update the handheld device with par levels, product information, and new or discontinued items.
- Prepare purchase requisitions for non‑stock “special” orders, “bill only” hand‑carried products, OR specialty carts, and auxiliary rooms as directed by the OR MM.
- Communicate supply issues, product recalls, back‑order items, overstock problems, and special requests to the OR MM and OR operations team.
- Oversee and participate in the CPD supply room inventory for rotating stock, reviewing outdated items monthly.
- Assist in organizing and performing departmental physical inventories.
- Respond to user requests both in person and over the telephone, reporting urgent situations to the OR MM and OR leadership.
- Participate in the daily huddle to review the OR schedule and address inventory‑related issues.
- Interact with Corporate Supply Chain staff as needed to maintain accurate product listings and support VAT requests.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of supply chain experience.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Operating room or procedural area supply experience preferred.
- High school diploma required.
- Leadership ability to work with OR MM, OR Leadership, and staff to ensure proper procurement and prioritization of supply needs.
- Customer service skills in a sensitive and occasionally stressful environment.
- Ability to train material aids in ordering and receiving, motivating and delegating effectively.
- Problem‑solving skills with the capacity to seek assistance from leadership when needed.
- Proficiency with Infor, Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet, and related technologies.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, effective verbally and in writing.
- Knowledge of surgical procedures and familiarity with preference cards for accurate stock replenishment.
$19.72 – $29.30 per hour. Compensation is based on qualifications, experience, and other factors.
