Position Overview
:
We are seeking an experienced Director of Employee Benefits Account Management to lead and grow our benefits consulting team and oversee the entire Employee Benefits Account Management book of business, including large group, self-funded, and small group clients. This role serves as a senior client-facing leader for complex and strategic accounts while providing overall leadership, direction, and accountability for the Account Management team.
The Director will oversee benefits service staff, drive operational excellence, and develop strategies to meet clients’ evolving employee benefits needs across all market segments.
Work Arrangement: This is a hybrid position based out of a Boston area office.
Professional Responsibilities
:
- Lead and mentor the benefits consulting and account management team across large group, self-funded, and small group segments, fostering collaboration, professional growth, and high performance.
- Maintain overall ownership and accountability for the entire Employee Benefits Account Management book of business, ensuring consistent service standards, scalability, and client satisfaction across all client sizes.
- Serve as the visible leader and primary point of contact for key and complex client relationships, representing the Account Management function during renewals and new business opportunities.
- Partner closely with Producers to manage renewal timelines and ensure timely, accurate execution of benefit programs across both large and small group clients.
- Oversee day‑to‑day account management activities across all client segments, including renewals, carrier negotiations, benefit plan enhancements, and administration.
- Provide hands‑on leadership for large and self‑funded accounts, leveraging deep expertise in self‑insured plans, while ensuring appropriate delegation and support for small group accounts.
- Ensure smooth implementation of new carrier programs and plan changes with minimal client disruption across the full book of business.
- Deliver consultative presentations via phone, webinar, and in‑person meetings, as needed for strategic accounts and leadership‑level client engagements.
- Collaborate with sales teams to identify and pursue cross‑selling opportunities that enhance the overall client benefit offering across all market segments.
Qualifications and Requirements
:
- 10+ years of experience managing self‑funded, large group employee benefits accounts.
- 2–4 years of leadership experience within an independent insurance or benefits agency, including formal or informal leadership through coaching, mentoring, training, team oversight, or serving as a go‑to subject matter resource.
- Active Life & Health insurance license required.
- Familiarity with platforms such as Benefit Point, Employee Navigator, or Plansight preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with clients, carriers, and internal stakeholders.
