Toxics Campaign Director at PIRG

A key leadership role for protecting public health by advocating for toxic‑free chemicals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coalition building
    :
    Build support from diverse organizations and constituencies at campus, state, and national levels.
  • Advocacy
    :
    Present policy ideas directly to state legislators, governors, Congress, corporate boardrooms, and other decision‑maker forums; run lobby days for students and staff.
  • Media Outreach
    :
    Serve as spokesperson through media events, press releases, and opinion writing; maintain awareness of toxic issues and campaign goals.
  • Campaign strategy
    :
    Evaluate opportunities for building political support via coalition‑building, grassroots organizing, media coverage, and messaging.
  • Program development
    :
    Assess new research, create viable policy solutions, and propose suitable political strategies and messaging.
  • Fundraising
    :
    Write grant proposals, build relationships with foundations, meet donors, and write appeals for grassroots fundraising.
  • Staff recruitment and development
    :
    Recruit, manage interns, and participate in staff recruitment; potential to oversee staff.
Qualifications
  • At least 3 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to citizen‑based social change and a track record of leadership.
  • Experience in toxics, environmental, or public health campaigns preferred.
  • Goal‑driven, results‑oriented with excellent public speaking, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Persuasive communication in charged environments and strong passion for policy change.
Compensation and Benefits

Base salary $40,500 – $55,000 per year for candidates with 3–8 years of experience. Benefits include medical, dental, vision insurance for employees and dependents, paid time off, commuter benefits, 401(k) with employer match, parental leave, long‑term disability insurance, student‑loan assistance, training, and advancement opportunities.
