Registered Nurse, Operating Room Outpatient Surgery (40 hours, Day/Evening)

Boston Medical Center (BMC) is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Moakley Operating Room (Outpatient Surgery) department.

Location: Moakley Operating Room (Outpatient Surgery)
Schedule: 40 hours, Day/Evening

Department Overview
The Ambulatory Surgery Center consists of 8 operating and procedural rooms and completes outpatient surgery in several specialties including plastics, general, gynecology, orthopedic, sports medicine, ear, nose & throat, and urology. It has a dedicated nursing staff, pre‑procedural area and post‑anesthesia care unit while sharing close proximity to all the resources of the inpatient operating rooms.

Position Summary
The registered nurse adheres to Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing rules and is primarily responsible for professional performance and direct patient care. The role encompasses nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation, and coordination of care for patients and their families across the healthcare continuum. The registered nurse is accountable for clinical, educational, quality, and fiscal patient care outcomes using the model of care designed by the nursing department and following established agency policies, procedures, protocols, guidelines, and standards of practice.

Education
Nursing degree:
Diploma, ASN or BSN (preferred), ability to obtain BSN within 4 years.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Required
Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts; current basic life support (BLS) certification and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.

Knowledge and Skills

• Current or previous OR experience preferred.
• Basic computer proficiency including the ability to access, enter and interpret computerized data/information.
• Effective interpersonal skills to facilitate communication with various health‑care team members, patients, and families.
• Organizational skills to set priorities and efficiently complete assigned work.
• Multilingual skills (beyond English) preferred.
• Relevant clinical experience and/or specialty certification required for certain practice areas, e.g., enters total therapy, epidemiology, peri‑operative areas.
• Analytical ability to solve clinical nursing issues and conduct quality improvement research utilization projects.
• Ability to effectively delegate appropriate patient care activities.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills appropriate to patient populations served.
• Physical ability to meet the core job responsibilities in practice setting demands for patients regularly served.
• Ability to manage stress due to critical patient care issues, changing organizational climate, and personnel issues.

Compensation Range
$38.05–$79.47 per hour. Total compensation includes benefits, contract increases, Flexible Spending Accounts, 403(b) savings matches, earned time cash out, paid time off, career advancement opportunities, and resources to support employee and family wellbeing.
