- Collaboration and Multidisciplinary Engagement
- Actively participate in patient care and practice issues, leveraging diverse resources to optimize outcomes. Recognize the limits of clinical judgment and seek multidisciplinary collaboration, ensuring administrative and clinical continuity within ambulatory services. Engage in committees and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements through collaboration with leadership.
- Systems Thinking and Patient Flow Management
- Develop and implement strategies that address the needs of patients, families, caregivers, and the institution. Direct patient flow and staff allocation, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures. Monitor the care environment for safety and regulatory readiness, promoting the Nursing Department's Professional Practice Model, DFCI Strategic Plan, and Quality Plan.
- Personnel Management and Advocacy
- Support patient, family, and community care by aligning decisions with the organization's mission. Supervise and mentor nursing staff, overseeing hiring, orientation, and professional development. Ensure clinical practice standards are met and initiate performance counseling as needed. Encourage leadership potential and ensure staff training aligns with unit needs and Human Resource policies.
- Clinical Inquiry and Quality Improvement
- Enhance standards and guidelines through research and education, addressing practice questions to improve patient care. Lead unit-based quality improvement and safety initiatives, facilitating continuous process enhancements consistent with departmental goals.
- Clinical Judgment and Expertise
- Serve as a clinical expert, synthesizing data to make informed judgments. Participate in audits and the development of nursing standards and policies, ensuring evidence-based practice. Promote inclusion and diversity awareness, maintaining compliance with professional standards and licensure requirements.
- Facilitator of Learning and Professional Development
- Seek opportunities to teach and mentor, adapting educational objectives to meet the needs of patients and staff. Engage in professional organizations and continuing education, supporting and mentoring staff to participate in research and evidence-based practice. Function as a role model for communication and problem-solving, fostering an environment of shared governance.
