Summary:
This role focuses on research and development of new products, innovation, and improvement of processes. It supports the development of new products, includes clinical roles focused on research projects, and involves basic, translational, and/or clinical research aimed at solving specific problems. The position is an entry‑level professional contributor that may direct lower‑level staff and manage processes. The majority of time is spent overseeing design, implementation, or delivery of processes, programs, and policies using specialized knowledge typically acquired through advanced education.
Work is closely supervised and involves less complex problems.
Reports to the Principal Investigator and assists in research activities under close supervision. The research concerns babesiosis, a tick‑borne disease caused by a parasite that infects red blood cells. The research assistant will participate in projects developing a protein‑based vaccine against human babesiosis and testing novel compounds for relapsing babesiosis. Techniques include flow cytometry, ELISA, and PCR to monitor infection and diagnose mouse genotypes.
Job DescriptionMinimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One (1) year of research experience.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Experience with flow cytometry, ELISA and PCR is welcome. Handling of mice and knowledge of immunology are pluses.
- Facilitate data collection, identify missing data, implement checks, and generate reports.
- Perform tasks requiring familiarity with protocols, techniques, and equipment.
- Maintain and update records, reports, and files.
- Assist with abstracts, presentations, and publications.
- Attend meetings, take minutes as needed.
- Conduct literature searches relevant to projects and emerging techniques.
- Schedule meetings or study visits and maintain calendars.
- Assist with collection, storage, and shipping of biological samples.
- Maintain records in accordance with IRB/WIRB and sponsor requirements.
- Collaborate with peers to achieve group goals and foster a positive environment.
- Ability to sit for extended periods.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong computer skills with MS Office and database experience.
- Strong organizational skills, able to handle competing demands to meet timelines.
- Follow directions and work well in a team.
- Multi‑task and prioritize responsibilities.
- Meticulous, detail‑oriented in procedures and recordkeeping.
