Downstate Research Assistant, Democratic Party of Illinois
The Democratic Party of Illinois (DPI) is seeking a dynamic individual to fill the position of Downstate Research Assistant. The Downstate Research Assistant will be responsible for assisting the research, communications, and political teams with short and long-term projects and conducting field research downstate.

What Will You Do?The Research Assistant will play a vital role in holding Illinois Republicans accountable during the 2026 campaign season.
Responsibilities include:- Monitoring Republican candidates’ schedules for events and updates
- Capturing public remarks and statements
- Transcribing and analyzing remarks on tight deadlines
- Preparing and delivering daily findings to senior staff
- Other research tasks as assigned
- Experience volunteering or interning in government or campaign settings strongly preferred
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to keep up with the news cycle
- Ability to effectively collaborate with internal staff and external stakeholders at all levels
- Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly to project needs
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle for travel within Illinois
- Illinois ties
This is a full-time position with flexibility to start remotely, with the expectation of reporting to a Democratic Party of Illinois office in Springfield or elsewhere Downstate as the election cycle progresses.
The salary for this role is $55,000-$60,000 a year and is commensurate with experience. DPI also offers a generous benefits package.
