About the Company
The animal health sector has seen tremendous growth over the last decade, led by the launch of several monoclonal antibody therapeutics for companion animals. Animerra is a second-generation antibody discovery company focused on companion animal therapeutics. Their mission is to revolutionize animal healthcare through cutting-edge research and development of next generation biologics. Animerra has strong investor backing that has positioned the company for further growth as they build out the discovery platform and advance their therapeutic portfolio.
About the Role
Animerra is seeking a highly motivated RA/Scientist to advance the company’s therapeutic portfolio with a focus on antibody discovery and engineering. This role will focus on molecular biology techniques and protein engineering to support the development of novel antibody products and technologies. You will work on projects involving DNA cloning, mutagenesis, display screening, heterologous protein expression, purification and characterization, and functional assays.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute molecular cloning strategies including vector construction, site-directed mutagenesis, PCR, DNA assembly (e.g., Gibson, Golden Gate), DNA purification and sequence analysis.
- Use display screening to select and optimize antibody products.
- Express and purify recombinant proteins using bacterial, yeast, and/or mammalian expression systems.
- Purify proteins using techniques such as ion exchange, tagged based purifications, SEC.
- Characterize proteins using techniques such as SDS-PAGE, Western blot, size-exclusion chromatography, thermal shift, and binding assays (e.g., ELISA, SPR, BLI).
- Maintain detailed records of experimental design, results, and protocols in electronic lab notebooks (ELNs).
- Analyze data and contribute to the interpretation and presentation of results in internal meetings and external reports.
- Collaborate with cross-functional team to achieve goals and assist with various projects.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree or PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Protein Engineering, or related discipline with 1–5+ years of industry lab experience. Job title commensurate with experience.
Required Skills and Experience
- Hands-on experience with standard molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, plasmid design, gel electrophoresis).
- Experience with protein display techniques (e.g., phage display, yeast display, mRNA display).
- Strong background in heterologous protein expression and purification workflows.
- Experience with engineering and expressing antibodies and/or antibody derived proteins.
- Familiarity with sequence analysis tools (e.g., Snap Gene, BLAST).
- Proficient in data analysis and visualization (e.g., Graph Pad Prism, Excel, R or Python a plus).
- Excellent organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with high-throughput cloning or protein expression.
- Knowledge of structural biology and protein modeling tools (e.g., PyMOL, Alpha Fold) is a bonus.
- Experience with NGS sequencing and/or bioinformatics of antibodies.
- Experience working within a small, dynamic team.
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment.
Additional Information
- This position will be based in Cambridge, MA and is on-site full-time.
