Postdoctoral Research Fellow Babitt Lab

Site: Massachusetts General Physicians Organization, Inc. Mass General Brigham relies on a wide range of professionals, including doctors, nurses, business people, tech experts, researchers, and systems analysts to advance our mission. As a not-for-profit, we support patient care, research, teaching, and community service, striving to provide exceptional care. We believe that high-performing teams drive groundbreaking medical discoveries and invite all applicants to join us and experience what it means to be part of Mass General Brigham.

A postdoctoral fellow position is available in the Babitt laboratory at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Harvard Medical School. Our laboratory conducts fundamental and translational research in the areas of iron biology, bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) signaling, and kidney disease. A particular focus of the laboratory is to identify the molecular basis by which BMPs regulate iron metabolism and the links between these pathways and the crippling complications of iron disorders and kidney disease.

Current projects aim to
1) understand the prodomain function, proteolytic processing, and dimerization of BMP proteins, including how these processes impact systemic iron homeostasis regulation;
2) collaborate with a chemistry lab and clinical investigators for the pre-clinical development and clinical translation of novel compounds for the treatment of iron disorders. We employ state-of-the-art multidisciplinary experimental approaches, including gene editing, novel genetic mouse models, primary cell isolation and culture, signal transduction assays, flow cytometry, single cell sequencing and multiomic methodologies, among others. Postdoctoral fellows will benefit from a highly collaborative environment and connections to premier biomedical institutions in the greater Boston area.

The salary for this position ranges from $73,544 to $81,199.
