Overview

Receiving general direction from the Manager of Investigations, the Violence Prevention/Intervention Coordinator (VPIC) responds to and mitigates the impact of incidents in high-risk areas within the hospital to ensure the protection of Dana Farber employees, property, information, reputation and brand. This position represents the department of Public Safety by promoting the hospital strategies, which support the systematic use of clinical partnership for identifying, assessing, de-escalating, and recovering from workplace violence incidents.

The VPIC uses problem-solving techniques to proactively address the immediate conditions that give rise to safety issues and concerns, such as crime, patient disorder, and fear of crime, and provides feedback information to the management team. The VPIC utilizes investigative tools and techniques to assess risks and develop and recommend appropriate risk mitigation plans. The VPIC completes timely and accurate documentation reporting incidents of escalating, ongoing, and/or assessing potential risks of violence to the department of Public Safety and Emergency Management.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute patient watches in collaboration with the clinical team and security operations.
  • Conduct risk assessments for potential workplace violence attributable to patients and others.
  • Gather relevant information and feedback, compare data, identify relationships, and mitigate risks to workplace violence.
  • Champion new initiatives, collaborating with team members and other teams, and keep abreast of new facility policies and regulations. Some examples of offering guidance will include but are not limited to; reiterating the hospital policies, available safety resources and where and how to get help and request security escorts.
  • Responsible for review monthly security system's inspections, such as panic buttons, intercoms, safety inspections within the department, critical emergency doors and facility hazardous safety inspections.
  • In support of Public Safety, identify significant security risks, design, and implement strategies and programs to prevent and reduce loss of the organization s assets.
  • Anticipate process partner needs and give high priority to process partner satisfaction and service. Develops collaborative relationships and provides expertise, technical guidance, and training to interface interdependencies within assigned facility processes.
  • Coordinate and manage preventative programs and services to protect against disruptions in a cost-effective manner. Assist in the research and deployment of technical solutions to safeguard corporate assets, most importantly, Dana Farber employees.
  • Conducts and maintains Quality Control Audits on Facility Security Program to include training records and life safety system inspections.
  • Performs standard assignments that require some interpretation of data and regulations, identification of problem sources, and possible remedial actions.
  • Identifies and evaluates the impact of security risk.
  • Identifies existing and potential security problems.
  • Participates in developing corrective measures.
  • Leads in processes to ensure conformance to security standards.
  • Leads management system for security functions.
  • Participates in teams to ensure conformance with security.
  • May require an emergency response when instructed by Security Command Staff if the incident is in the immediate vicinity.
