Overview
Security Officer – Evening (3pm‑11pm) at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, 10 Vining Street, Boston, MA. 40‑hour shift per week, full‑time, hybrid (in‑person evenings and at the office).
Responsibilities- Provide protection to people and property through patrol, investigation, monitoring alarms and surveillance cameras.
- Patrol buildings and grounds, identify unsafe conditions and improperly secured areas/property to help prevent theft, injuries or damages.
- Provide customer service by interacting with patients, visitors and staff in a professional, friendly and helpful manner.
- Respond to emergencies and provide a high level of emergency response.
- Conduct preliminary investigations into thefts, shortages and other complaints involving potential misconduct.
- Provide escorts for staff, visitors and patients as requested.
- Execute patient restraints and detain individuals suspected of criminal conduct, when required.
- Maintain accountability for valuables/property and other forms of evidence.
- Assist motorists with jump starts and lockouts.
- Prepare and submit written reports in a complete and accurate manner and log all incidents.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- May be assigned to special duties such as Bike Patrol and/or Community Liaison Officer.
- May be assigned to an off‑site location, including administrative buildings, ambulatory care centers, and/or community based health clinics.
- May be required to work other shifts and/or locations when necessary.
- Minimum of a high school diploma required. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or related field preferred.
- 1‑3 years of security or related experience preferred.
- Valid driver’s license from the state of residence.
- Pass an initial and annual criminal background check.
- Maintain certifications: CPR/AED/First Aid, Narcan (Naloxone) Training, AVADE/HDTS De‑Escalation Training, IAHSS Basic Officer Certification (within first 90 days).
- Preferred: licensed as a Special State Police Officer under Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 22, Section 63.
- Strong customer service, communication, risk analysis, and organizational skills.
- Ability to read, write and speak English fluently; additional language skills preferred.
- Capacity to use office equipment, including computer software and database applications.
- Exemplary customer service and communication skills; able to handle complex interpersonal situations and crisis management scenarios.
- Strong risk analysis, organizational, and evidence gathering abilities.
- Reliable, flexible, and capable of working a physically demanding schedule.
- Preparation of clear, concise reports and routine correspondence.
- Proficiency with computer applications and data entry.
- Fluency in English; additional languages preferred.
Physically must be able to lift 50 pounds, stand/walk for a minimum of 8 hours, run to an emergency within the hospital and campuses, and use appropriate force to arrest or restrain individuals. Functional assessment within the first 90 days: 3 Minute Step Test, Stretcher Carry, Pull and Drag, Balance Walk, Stair Climb.
Shift & CompensationPay Range: $22.88 – $32.72 per hour in cash base rate.
Shift: Evening 3pm‑11pm, 40 hours per week.
Location:
Hybrid; onsite evenings at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, office at 10 Vining Street.
