Job SummaryPerform maintenance and repair of various types of mobile diesel equipment in Company shops or on public roadways as necessary. Maximize equipment availability through efficient and proactive preventive maintenance programs. Responsibilities increase with each job grade.
Essential Accountabilities- Diagnose problems and perform mechanical repair and maintenance on a variety of equipment, including tires, ready‑mix concrete trucks, heavy construction equipment, and passenger vehicles.
- Operate and inspect equipment to identify defects.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance such as lubricating and oil changes, and conduct failure analysis.
- Rebuild or fabricate parts as needed.
- Create work orders for repairs and services, providing legible and accurate information.
- Coordinate with location supervisors, reviewing Vehicle Condition Reports (VCRs) to prioritize work.
- Input daily repair reports into the software‑based tracking program (Trimble).
- Communicate with drivers and plant managers to ensure adherence to preventive vehicle maintenance policies.
- Utilize a wide variety of hand and power tools, cutting torches, and welding equipment.
- Order parts from approved vendors and operate the company pickup/repair truck for parts collection.
- Operate fixed and mobile equipment as necessary.
- Assist in the maintenance and repair of fixed equipment.
- Comply with all safety, health, environmental, and company policies.
- Perform other duties as directed by your supervisor.
- Perform duties safely, responsibly, and proficiently.
- Maintain good housekeeping in the plant, tool and parts house, and shop areas.
- Follow lube manuals, guidelines, and plant equipment service manuals.
- Perform a variety of additional duties as directed.
- Under close supervision, perform oil, lube, and filter service on all assigned equipment.
- Stand, walk, sit, lift, and perform other physical tasks totaling at least 45 pounds, and work outdoors in heat and cold.
- May be required to wear a respirator.
- Frequently work near moving mechanical parts and vehicular traffic.
- Work in high, precarious, or cramped positions when necessary.
- Work required overtime and maintain a flexible schedule.
- Possess a working knowledge of the English language.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent; completion of diesel mechanic school preferred.
Experience:
Minimum two (2) years’ experience in the construction/mining/concrete industry preferred.
License:
Valid Class A or Class B commercial driver’s license is helpful.
- Computer literate.
- Thorough knowledge of diesel engine repair, driveline components, hydraulics, electrical, mechanical, and pneumatics systems.
- Knowledge of welding, sandblasting, and spray painting principles.
- CDL and DOT qualified.
- Able to operate a ready‑mix concrete truck.
This position requires awareness of construction and industrial sites. Protective gear will be required where appropriate. Work may involve multiple sites, varying start times, and evening or weekend hours.
Technician MechanicJob Duties
- Determine vehicle condition via inspections and diagnostic tests; identify worn and damaged parts.
- Keep equipment available by completing preventive maintenance schedules, installing upgrades, controlling corrosion, and completing winterization procedures.
- Repair vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems.
- Verify vehicle performance via test drives and system adjustments.
- Ensure federal and state vehicle requirements are met.
- Maintain vehicle appearance through cleaning, washing, and painting.
- Maintain vehicle records with annotated services and repairs.
- Keep shop equipment running by troubleshooting, maintaining supplies, and performing preventive maintenance.
- Control costs using warranties, evaluating service and parts options.
- Manage supplies through inventory, orders, and verification.
- Update job knowledge by engaging in educational opportunities.
- Enhance department reputation by accepting new requests and exploring value‑adding opportunities.
