Transdev in Boston, MA is seeking an Apprentice Technician (position hours: 12:00 p.m. ‑ 8:00 p.m. – management will determine location assignments) to bolster our team. In this role, the Apprentice Technician will perform light vehicle maintenance on school buses as well as maintain facility cleanliness.

- Maintain the upkeep of the shop and yard.
- Responsible for trash removal.
- Perform fluid level checks and any other non-mechanical assignments given by the Shop Manager or designee.
- Perform minor school bus repairs including but not limited to light replacements, mirror replacements/adjustments, crossing arm replacements, taping of seats and seat cover replacements.
- Receive on-the-job training from Master Mechanics, A Mechanics, B Mechanics, and qualified Management personnel.
- Keep assigned work area clean.
- Perform data entry into the RTA computer system.
- Other duties as required.
- A technical or vocational high school diploma with a concentration in diesel and/or automotive technology.
- A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) with one (1) year of experience in diesel and/or automotive maintenance may substitute for the technical or vocational high school diploma.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Must maintain an excellent motor vehicle record.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- ASE certifications, preferred.
- A valid Class B Commercial Driver's License, preferred.
- Bus or heavy‑duty truck repair experience, preferred.
- Ability to operate hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, jacks, and hoists.
- Ability to work in a safe manner.
- Ability to comprehend parts books and maintenance manuals, and accurately complete any necessary reports or other documents.
- Must possess basic computer skills.
- Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.
- Subject to DOT drug testing and physical if applicable. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including cannabis, for any reason.
- Work in an environment outside or inside exposed to varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions – work alone and in remote locations.
- Occasionally stand, stoop, squat, and walk for extended periods of time; bend, kneel, or crouch to files or equipment stored at ground level; use hands and fingers to handle small parts, push buttons; and use hands, arms, legs and feet to climb ladders and stairs.
- Sit or stand for extended periods (up to 6‑8 hours per day); frequently walk for long distances and on possible sloped ground, or slippery and uneven surfaces.
- Must lift 50 lbs. from floor to bus, lift/carry 15 lbs. up to 100'; push and pull objects up to 50 lbs. up to 8', torque 100 lbs. wheel lugs; occasionally throughout the workday; lift material weighing up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance; and move the steering wheel and operate pedals freely while seated in bus seat.
- Withstand heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job; tolerate exposure to considerable amounts of dust, vehicle fumes and noise.
