We’re looking for a Backend Engineer to help build and scale Remark’s platform. You’ll focus on designing, optimizing, and maintaining backend services, infrastructure, and data pipelines that power Remark’s e-commerce and AI-driven experiences.

This is a high-ownership role where you’ll have the flexibility to shape technical decisions, optimize architecture, and drive key projects from start to finish. You’ll work on everything from scalability challenges to API design to data processing, ensuring that our backend remains robust, efficient, and reliable.

We use a modern Type Script-based stack, including NestJS, Prisma, Bull, Lang Chain, and Graph

QL, but we’re always open to new ideas and approaches. While this role is primarily backend-focused, you’ll also have the opportunity to learn and work with frontend technologies if they interest you. If you enjoy working autonomously, solving complex problems, and owning major technical decisions, we’d love to hear from you.

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services that scale reliably and efficiently

• Optimize database performance, API efficiency, and system reliability

• Build and improve Graph
  
  QL and RESTful APIs to support frontend applications and integrations

• Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and technical decision-making

• Balance speed and quality, with a focus on tangible results

• Develop actionable roadmaps for new capabilities, and work with the engineering team to execute on that roadmap

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related technical field

• Must be able to commit to at least 3 days/week in person in our Boston, MA office location

• Strong proficiency in Type Script and Java Script

• Experience with backend frameworks for Node.js (e.g., NestJS or similar)

• Familiarity with databases and ORMs (e.g., MySQL, Postgre
  
  SQL, Prisma, etc.)

• Experience designing Graph
  
  QL or RESTful APIs

• Ability to work independently, solve complex problems, and take ownership of projects

• Nice-to-have:
  Experience at a fast-growing startup or similar environment

• You have cool open-source contributions
