Head of AI Platform Engineering

We are seeking a highly skilled and visionary leader to join Mass Mutual’s Research & Development (R&D) organization as the Head of AI Platform Engineering.

In this key role, you will be responsible for Mass Mutual’s technology strategy. Cut through hype, drive beyond prototypes, and deliver scalable, performant AI systems with us!

The Research and Development organization is focused on delivering transformational change for Mass Mutual and its clients, financial professionals, and policyholders. We are a team of data scientists, engineers, social scientists, and product and project managers committed to innovation. • Architect
  and
  build the core platform for applied
  , secure, and efficient AI/ML platform engineering to support a broad range of AI workloads
• Prototype and product ionize agentic workflows and LLM-based systems that drive impact across the value chain
• through the automation, deployment, scaling, and management of AI platform services, ensuring high availability, performance, and resilience
• Be a talent magnet by attracting, developing, and retaining a world‑class team of high‑performing engineers
• Shape strategy in partnership with R&D leadership and senior executives across the enterprise
• Lead
  cross‑functional teams of AI platform engineers, ML engineers, and decision engineers to deliver robust, production‑ready AI solutions
• Collaborate with product managers, researchers, engineers, and business stakeholders to define and execute AI strategies aligned with company objectives.

• Advanced degree in engineering, computer science, or related disciplines
• 10+ years of relevant engineering experience
• 5+ years of experience in managing research or engineering teams
• Exceptional problem‑solving skills and willingness to learn new concepts, methods, and technologies
• Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills

• Financial Industry knowledge
• Strong publication history in area of expertise
• Demonstrated ability to translate research into business impact
