Lead Software Engineer – Payer ADT

We are looking for a Lead Software Engineer to join our Payer ADT team within Platform and Data Services, Interoperability, Boston location. Our zone vision is to maximize our network effect through efficient, effective experience driven interoperability and navigate to value-based care.

Our team’s vision is to improve payer/partner and provider collaboration in healthcare ecosystem, deliver better patient and provider experience. We are building a robust and scalable integration platform to enable bidirectional workflow between Payer/Partner and Provider groups to surface Payer/Partner’s insights on patient s health condition at the moments of care delivery.

Help us reach our goal of becoming the healthcare backbone by enhancing our cloud based EHR solution and leveraging the network effect of 100k+ providers. Your job will be to build products and services for Payer integration and platform solutions.

• Deliver customer value in the form of high-quality software components and services in adherence with R&D policies on security, performance, longevity, and integration testing
• Propose technical design and implementation that solve scaling and performance problems
• Look for innovation opportunities across several teams with a willingness to experiment and to boldly confront problems of large complexity and scope
• Proactively identify opportunities to reuse services and product features. Avoid duplication of effort by collaborating and make proposals across various engineering teams
• Provide technical mentorship within team and across zones
• Interact with customers and internal stakeholders as a consultant and spokesperson for payer solution team

• 6+ years of experience in software engineering. Significant software engineering skills and computer science experience
• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent.
• Hands-on experience in programming languages such as Java, Python, JavaScript/Query, Perl.
• Extensive experience with object-oriented programming, relational database technologies, distributed computing tech and RESTful APIs
• Experience architecting/developing solutions on AWS
• Experience in an Agile environment and been a part of SDLC, deployment & support of software projects
• Knowledge of version control management tools like Perforce & Git
• Demonstrated experience leading or developing high quality, enterprise scale software products using a structured system development lifecycle
• Knowledge of or experience with big data analytics techniques: data warehousing (Snowflake), data mining (Looker) is a plus
• Knowledge of or experience with agentic AI is a plus
• Knowledge of healthcare is a plus

$143,000 - $243,000

The base salary range shown reflects the full range for this role from minimum to maximum. At athenahealth, base pay depends on multiple factors, including job-related experience, relevant knowledge and skills, how your qualifications compare to others in similar roles, and geographical market rates. Base pay is only one part of our competitive Total Rewards package - depending on role eligibility, we offer both short and long-term incentives by way of an annual discretionary bonus plan, variable compensation plan, and equity plans.
