The Credit Decisioning team is essential to every transaction at Affim, providing scalable underwriting decisions for integrated point‑of‑sale (POS) merchants and wallet platforms across the US, Canada, and the UK. This role is within the Credit Expansion sub‑team which focuses on responsibly increasing access to credit while ensuring consistent decision‑making for our users.
What You’ll Do- Break down larger projects into individual tasks, deliver them in multiple phases, and collaborate with others to ensure timely delivery of your work.
- Support your peers and stakeholders in the product development lifecycle by collaborating with product management, design & analytics, participating in ideation, articulating technical constraints, and partnering on decisions that properly consider risks and trade‑offs.
- Support the operations and availability of your team’s artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting “keep the lights on” & on‑call efforts.
- Contribute to a sense of community on your team by engaging in growth and development activities such as participation in the interview process.
- 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer.
- Experience designing, developing and launching backend systems and proficiency in Python or Kotlin.
- Familiarity with distributed systems and technologies such as AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
- Ability to translate simple problems or business scenarios into solutions that interact with multiple software components, writing clear, well‑tested and extensible code.
- Comfort navigating a large code base, debugging others’ code, and providing feedback through code reviews.
- Ownership of personal growth through proactive feedback from team, manager and stakeholders.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills that support effective collaboration with our global engineering team.
- Either a Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
Base Pay Grade: L
Equity Grade: 6
Employees new to Affim typically come in at the start of the pay range. Base pay is part of a total compensation package that may include equity rewards, monthly stipends for health, wellness and tech spending, and benefits.
USA base pay range (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT) per year: $160,000 - $210,000
USA base pay range (all other U.S. states) per year: $142,000 - $192,000
