Personal Trainer Job Description
The YMCA of Greater Boston seeks passionate personal trainers dedicated to transforming lives. Our holistic approach emphasizes mind, body, and spirit, helping members achieve lasting health and empowerment.
Key Responsibilities- Build and maintain a personal training clientele, including one‑on‑one and small group sessions.
- Demonstrate clear exercise instruction with proper form and technique.
- Develop positive relationships with members, offering motivational support and guidance.
- Participate in trainer education lectures and member outreach events.
- Track client progress and follow up in a timely manner.
- Meet or exceed monthly personal‑training session goals set by the Health and Wellness Director.
- Promote personal‑training services to members through outreach, demonstrations, and events.
- Operate all equipment safely and report any issues promptly.
- Work shifts on the gym floor as support staff when needed.
- Follow all YMCA policies, emergency procedures, and complete required incident reports.
- Attend scheduled trainings and meetings and pursue YMCA‑sponsored professional development opportunities.
- Two‑ or four‑year degree in Exercise Science or related field preferred.
- Nationally accredited certification (NSCA, ACSM, NASM) preferred.
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
- Enthusiastic, friendly, ambitious personality.
- Ability to perform fitness assessments and teach progressive exercise programs tailored to member goals.
- Proficiency in instructing and observing proper exercise techniques.
- Ability to create and monitor safe, effective exercise programs for individuals.
- Skill in selling the value of personal training and communicating effectively via member‑management software.
- Commitment to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all members.
- Reliability, dependability, flexibility, and adaptability.
- Mature judgment and sound decision‑making.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Observant, safety‑conscious, and able to react calmly in emergencies.
- Develop leadership skills in a caring, challenging, and diverse environment.
