Group Exercise Instructor
Reporting to the Health and Wellness Director and working with other Wellness staff, the Group Exercise Instructor instructs group exercise classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that welcomes all skill and fitness levels. Effectively builds community within class and modifies class as needed to meet varied health, ability, and cultural needs. The YMCA is actively seeking a group exercise instructor who can lead, develop sound healthy habits with our members, and engage leadership in our classes.

Compensation: $30.00 - $40.00 / hour
Schedule: Part Time Hours
Key Responsibilities- Lead energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes as directed by the supervisor, providing high‑quality experiences for members and guests.
- Ask and answer questions from program participants to support them in achieving health and well‑being goals.
- Maintain working knowledge of wellness trends through YUSA courses and external training, providing effective information and support.
- Build effective, authentic relationships with members and help them connect with each other and the YMCA.
- Observe and adjust approach to support participants’ capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture.
- Celebrate program participants’ achievements related to program or personal goals, mastery of skills, or overall health and well‑being.
- Keep accurate class attendance records using our online Group Exercise Management software (Motion Vibe).
- Follow YMCA policies and procedures and respond to emergency situations.
- Resolve member issues professionally in alignment with YMCA values.
- At least one year of experience in a group exercise setting.
- NCCA‑accredited certification (e.g., ACE, AFFA, NASM, NSCA, ISSA).
- Current certification required for specific group exercise formats (e.g., Yoga, Spin, Les Mills Body Pump, Body Combat).
- Experience in health and wellness programming and group instruction.
- Understanding of internal and external marketing/special events.
- Understand relationships among the public, staff, volunteers, and staff, and effectively enhance and cultivate those relationships.
- Interpret, carry out, and implement YMCA mission and goals into classes and programs.
- Demonstrate commitment to creating an inclusive environment for participants of all backgrounds, abilities, and experience levels.
- Work as an integral member of a staff team.
- Communicate effectively with adults, youth, teens, seniors, and special populations.
- Preferred but not required:
Degree in Exercise Science or Physical Education. - CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
- Minimum of one year of fitness experience.
- Develop leadership skills in a caring, challenging, and diverse working environment.
