Overview

The Engineering & Mathematics Department of the School of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) at the University of Washington Bothell (UWB) invites applications for a tenure track position in Mechanical Engineering at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will join our faculty on a full-time basis for a nine-month academic year appointment beginning September 16, 2026. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research/scholarship and service.

The base salary range for this position will be $13,133-$13,824 per month during the nine-month academic year ($118,197-$124,416 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the success of the program in a number of ways, including developing and teaching impactful courses that support our students  educational and vocational aspirations, engaging in research that involves undergraduate students, and through service to the program, department, and school. The candidate will also be expected to teach core undergraduate courses in Mechanical Engineering and engage in scholarly activities with undergraduate students.

Candidates will be considered across a wide range of research and teaching interests in mechanical engineering. Current needs are greatest in the following areas: (1) Mechanics, Materials, Manufacturing, and design; (2) Control Systems, Dynamics, and Robotics.

The Mechanical Engineering program is part of the Department of Engineering and Mathematics, which is housed in the School of STEM. In addition to Mechanical Engineering, the department has programs in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering (jointly run with the department of Computer Systems & Software), and Mathematics. The Mechanical Engineering program is fully accredited by ABET and offers a BS degree with an emphasis on hands-on experience, collaborative problem-solving, and societal implications in the design, production, and implementation of mechanical and thermal fluid systems.
