The CSS Department invites applications for multiple tenure-track positions at the rank of assistant professor. Appointments are full-time (100% FTE) for a nine-month academic year beginning September 16, 2026.
Salary:
The base salary range for this nine-month academic year is $13,727-$14,449 per month ($123,543-$130,041 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
Candidates will be considered across a broad range of research and teaching interests, including but not limited to cybersecurity, software engineering, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, databases, embedded systems, and Internet of Things (IoT). Successful candidates are expected to develop externally sponsored research programs, supervise graduate students, teach at undergraduate and graduate levels, and support learning for students from diverse backgrounds.
CSS is among the largest computer science departments in the Pacific Northwest and offers a BS in Computer Science and Software Engineering, a BA in Applied Computing, and a jointly run BS in Computer Engineering with the Department of Engineering & Mathematics. At the graduate level, the department offers master’s degrees in computer science and software engineering and Cybersecurity Engineering, and a graduate certificate in Software Design and Development, along with several minors and options in computer science, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence.
Total enrollment is ~700 FTE undergraduate and ~200 FTE graduate students.
The 27 full-time CSS faculty pursue excellence in areas including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, data mining, software engineering, and more. Faculty have secured grants from NSF, NSA, DHS, and other agencies and collaborate with local IT companies. The department has well-equipped labs and facilities for teaching and research. School ContextThe School of STEM is UW Bothell’s largest school, committed to attracting diverse faculty and staff who support an exceptional student experience aligned with core values of Collaboration, Opportunities, Responsibility, and Engagement. Faculty engage undergraduate and master’s students as research collaborators and focus on equity, inclusion, and community-engaged teaching and research. The School offers 23 undergraduate and graduate degrees across four departments and is located on a campus with modern facilities and a focus on cross-disciplinary initiatives.

Qualifications- An earned doctorate in Computer Science or a related field, or foreign equivalent, by the date of hire.
- Candidates may be considered for an Acting Assistant Professor pending PhD title if the degree is not yet conferred; once conferred, the title changes to assistant professor. Doctoral degree must be completed within 2 years.
