Police Officer
Police Recruits that successfully complete the Police Academy will be promoted to a vacant Police Officer position when it becomes available. The Police Officer position has a five-step pay schedule. The starting pay is Step 1 - $34.85 per hour or $72,488 annually (as of 7/17/2025, subject to change).
Incumbents attend, participate, and successfully complete the POST-certified Police Recruit Training Academy prior to being commissioned as a Police Officer.
This is a civilian, limited-term, non-commissioned position assigned only to those individuals who have successfully passed the entry level testing and met all criteria to become commissioned police officers.

Meet or exceed all training academy standards when completing all work, physical fitness course requirements, and practical work problems assigned by Police Recruit Training Academy Staff.
Study and comprehend academy training materials.
Meet or exceed initial firearms and other weapons qualification standards; maintain said standards throughout duration of the academy.
Meet or exceed training academy standards on conduct and behavior.
Conditions of Employment – Incumbents are required to:- Maintain physical fitness to meet all required physical standards for Police Recruit throughout the duration of the academy.
- Wear a uniform and maintain a neat and clean appearance.
- Meet and maintain qualifications on firearms and other weapons.
- Upon academy graduation, work any hours, days, or shifts, including holidays and weekends, as assigned and be subject to call-back or overtime requirements, if necessary, for effective operations of a 24/7 facility.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada or “border state” driver’s license, as defined by NRS 483.
Must be at least 21 years of age by the date of the first exam for the position.
Must be a Citizen of the United States by the date of the first exam for the position.
Must not be prohibited from possessing a firearm pursuant to any law, including NRS 202.360 or 18 U.S. Code § 921-922.
Must meet all minimum standards for appointment to perform duties of a peace officer under NAC 289.110.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTSSuccessful completion of:
- Polygraph or CVSA (Voice Stress) Exam
- Extensive Background (Life History) Investigation
- Oral Board Interview
- POST Physical Fitness Examination administered both prior to hire and within 30 days from the start of the Academy
- Complete Medical Exam and Drug screening
- Psychological Examination

The Nevada Peace Officers’ Standards and Training Physical Fitness Test
Applicants will need to attest to the following on the application form to be considered for employment:
- The applicant is not disqualified from serving as a peace officer.
- The applicant has not been discharged, disciplined, or asked to resign from employment with a law enforcement agency for certain conduct; and the applicant has not resigned from employment or otherwise separated from employment with a law enforcement agency for certain conduct; and the applicant has not resigned from employment or otherwise separated from employment with a law enforcement agency while an investigation concerning certain alleged conduct was pending.
