Memoir & Personal Essay Writing Workshop

Overview

In this 6-week workshop we will transform your personal experiences into stories with universal appeal. Through engaging discussions, writing exercises, readings and sharing our written work, we’ll explore the art of writing memoir. Discussions include: truth-telling, memory, first-person narration, and the balance between showing and telling. Sessions are designed to uncover the deeper meaning in your story while fostering a supportive and encouraging community of writers.

Class is limited to 8 participants and welcomes writers at any stage of their journey.

Brenda Kahn is a Boulder-based artist, celebrated for her poignant, lyric-driven music that blends personal narratives with broader social commentaries. She gained acclaim in the ’90s with her punk-folk music, leading to a deal with Columbia Records and praise for her album “Epiphany in Brooklyn.” She toured with musical greats Bob Dylan and Jeff Buckley and authored “Ode to Chores,” a humorous take on motherhood in verse.

Her 2024 single “Alright OK” is available on You Tube and Spotify. Kahn’s memoir, set to explore the transformative power of music and writing against the backdrop of the East Village music scene in the ’90s, is forthcoming.

Fireside Ink Writers Workshop is a community where writers of all backgrounds gather to shape and share the essential stories that connect us. Our mission is to bring clarity and warmth to the writing process. We welcome writers at every stage, from first pages to publication, honoring each person’s lived experience as a vital part of our collective understanding. As a nonprofit literary arts organization, our workshops and literary projects create spaces where stories can be shared, preserved, and celebrated, fostering connection across generations and communities.
