Recreation Member Service Representative - Levels I or II (Recreation Centers)

Under the general supervision of the Recreation Member Service Supervisor, warmly welcomes community members to our facilities, ensures they have an enjoyable time, and assists with program or facility questions. This role handles point-of-sale transactions, membership check-ins, and various registration and front-desk duties at City of Boulder recreation facilities.

Job Description Summary

Level 1 and Level 2 positions available. Level 1 responsibilities include welcoming patrons and handling basic front-desk tasks. Level 2 responsibilities include customer service, cash handling, and registration system functions, with potential substitution for Recreation Member Service Representative III & IV shifts.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Provides excellent customer service to patrons of the recreation facilities, including greeting patrons, answering phones, providing information about services and programs, checking in patrons, and checking out equipment.
  • Markets and promotes Parks and Recreation programs and services, which may include giving tours and preparing flyers.
  • Operates the registration system, including Point of Sale, Membership/Pass Validation, Facility Reservation and Program Registration, and registers participants for classes and activities.
  • Assists patrons with facility rentals (e.g., tennis court and racquetball court) and checks in memberships; sells day passes.
  • Performs cash handling in accordance with City and Department policies and internal controls and can balance cash drawer and provide accurate change.
  • Performs related duties as required to meet the needs of the city.
  • Takes safety precautions to prevent accidents and ensures safety of self, others, materials, and equipment; reports accidents and property damage.
  • Follows city and department policies, participates in professional trainings, and adheres to attendance and workplace attire policies.
  • Level II specific: When needed, may serve as Lead worker in substitute capacity for Recreation Member Service Representative III or IV shifts. Resolves customer concerns and incidents, completes accident/incident reports, and monitors facility issues through periodic walk-throughs. Can open and close the facilities and provide direction to other front-desk staff and custodial staff as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ability to demonstrate receptionist and cash handling experience.
  • Ability and desire to provide excellent customer service in person and on the telephone.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse people.
  • Flexibility to work weekends and evenings.
  • Valid Driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Background screening in line with city policy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience at a public or private recreation facility.
  • Experience with the Active registration system.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office; bilingual in English and Spanish (conversational).
Required Education And Experience
  • For both Levels I and II:
    Must have current First Aid/AED and CPR certifications within 90 days of hire.
  • Level I:
    No education or experience required.
  • Level II:
    High School diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of six months of customer service experience.
Working Schedule and Compensation
  • Base pay range: $16.25/hr - $22.75/hr
  • Part-time hourly position; generally, hiring range starts at the minimum up to 80% of the range depending on experience.
