Job Summary

The MA Clinical Mental Health Counseling:
Buddhism‑Informed Contemplative Counseling concentration seeks Clinical Support Professionals (CSPs) to assist the course instructor in the in‑person Diagnosis and Treatment Planning CMHC 607‑BA class. CSPs will support the student experience outside of class meetings and assist with course logistics for one semester (01/12/2026–05/08/2026). This is a 3‑credit course scheduled Tuesdays 9:00 am‑12:20 pm on Naropa University’s Nalanda Campus.

Course Description

An advanced overview of clinical thinking and perspectives related to assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning. Counselors use the latest edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders as a guide to frame diagnostic thinking. Topics include basic psychopharmacology, psychosocial modalities, evidence‑based practice, and recovery strategies.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Attend class meetings.
  • Facilitate discussion groups and/or small group work.
  • Support the course instructor in preparing for class, such as preparing materials (e.g., assessment instruments).
  • Confer with the instructor regarding students’ learning as evidenced by class participation and assignments.
  • Track group dynamics of the class.
  • Provide examples of material from personal clinical experience.
  • Meet one‑on‑one with students as needed to support their learning.
  • Review written and oral work of students for understanding of students’ experience, without evaluation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What We Require
  • Not currently enrolled as a Naropa student.
  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated skill in group facilitation.
  • Ability to create and maintain a positive team environment and behave professionally with everyone encountered in the course and scope of the job duties.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a close team, collaborating with the instructor and students.
  • High degree of emotional intelligence, critical thinking, and communication skills.
  • Understanding of principles and practices of culturally responsive counseling.
  • Commitment to co‑create a diverse and inclusive community.
What We’d Like You to Have
  • Ongoing counseling and teaching or facilitator experience.
  • Familiarity with Contemplative Education.
  • Familiarity with contemplative psychotherapy.
  • Familiarity with Naropa’s Buddhism‑Informed Contemplative Counseling concentration.
  • Prior experience with direct clinical work in counseling, psychology, or a related field.
Physical Requirements & Environmental Conditions

The role involves time spent in classrooms or virtual meetings and occasionally in offices. Potential environmental conditions include interruptions, distractions, heat, cold, dust, and dampness. Typical duties include:

  • Reading academic texts and student papers.
  • Operating personal computer and audio‑visual equipment.
  • Standing or sitting for extended periods.
  • Moving around campus for classes and meetings.
