Job SummaryThe MA Clinical Mental Health Counseling:
Buddhism-Informed Contemplative Counseling concentration (formerly Contemplative Psychotherapy and Buddhist Psychology) seeks Clinical Support Professional(s) (CSP) to assist the course instructor in the in-person Diagnosis and Treatment Planning CMHC 607-BA class, outside of class meetings, and offering support with the student experience in class. This is a one-semester appointment. This is a 3-credit course, scheduled to meet Tuesdays 9:00am-12:20pm on Naropa University’s Nalanda Campus.
Semester dates are 01/12/2026-05/08/2026.
An advanced overview of clinical thinking and perspectives related to assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning. Counselors utilize the latest edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders as a guide to frame diagnostic thinking. Topics include basic psychopharmacology, psychosocial modalities, evidence-based practice, and recovery strategies.
Job Duties & Responsibilities- Attend class meetings.
- Facilitate discussion groups and/or small group work.
- Support course instructor in preparing for class, such as preparing materials (e.g., assessment instruments) for use in class.
- Confer with course instructor regarding students’ learning as evidenced by class participation and assignments.
- Support the instructor by tracking the group dynamics of the class.
- Offer examples of the material from personal clinical experience.
- Meet one-on-one with students as needed to support their learning.
- Review written and oral work of the students for understanding students' experience, without evaluation.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Not currently enrolled as a Naropa student.
- Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.
- Demonstrated skill in group facilitation.
- Ability to create and maintain a positive team environment and behave professionally with everyone encountered in the course and scope of the job duties.
- Ability to work both independently and as a part of a close team, working collaboratively with course instructor and students.
- High degree of emotional intelligence, critical thinking, and communication skills.
- An understanding of principles and practices of culturally responsive counseling.
- Commitment to co-create a diverse and inclusive community.
- On-going counseling and teaching or facilitator experience in the field.
- Familiarity with Contemplative Education.
- Familiarity with contemplative psychotherapy.
- Familiarity with Naropa’s Buddhism-Informed Contemplative Counseling concentration (formerly Contemplative Psychotherapy and Buddhist Psychology).
- Prior experience with direct clinical work in counseling, psychology, or related field.
Faculty members spend most of their time in their classrooms or in virtual meetings with some time in offices. In the classrooms and on campus may experience: interruptions, distractions, heat, cold, dust and/or dampness. As a faculty member, you may spend extended periods in front of students and speaking as well as:
- Reading academic texts and materials, student papers, etc.
- Operating personal computer and audio-visual equipment.
- Standing or sitting for hours at a time.
- Moving around campus for classes and meetings.
