230:
Introduction to Art Therapy, a course for undergraduate students in Naropa University’s B.A. Art Therapy program. The course primarily entails assisting the course instructor during a 3 credit 15 week in-person class and meeting with students in person or remotely outside class. The Clinical Support Professional will also assist with classroom set up and clean-up, help prepare art materials and experientials, and provide teaching support to the instructor including reviewing student work and assisting with preparing course materials.
This course runs on Thursdays, 11:45 – 2:30pm during the Fall semester (August 25 - December 12, 2025)
Commitment involves arriving 15 – 20 minutes prior to class start and staying 15 –20 minutes after class ends. Availability to meet with instructor for coordination and provide 1-on-1 academic support to students as needed outside class meeting time.
Course DescriptionATH
230: This course offers an introduction to the history, major theoretical viewpoints, and applications of art therapy. Through readings, seminar style discussions, and experiential exercises, students formulate their own initial working/evolving definition of art therapy. Open to all students. Required for BA Art Therapy students. Must be open to exploring and working with art materials though no prior artistic skills or training are required.
- Classroom Support
- Assist with in-person class sessions for a 3-credit, 15-week undergraduate course
- Help with classroom setup and cleanup, including preparing the physical environment and materials for art-based experientials
- Support facilitation of in-class art therapy activities, ensuring safe, organized, and inclusive participation
- Student Support
- Meet with students in person or remotely to provide academic or experiential support as directed by the instructor
- Support students' understanding of course concepts and assignments through supplemental guidance and feedback
- Instructional Assistance
- Assist with preparing course materials, including handouts, slides, and experiential supplies
- Review student work (e.g., reflections, journals, or projects) and provide feedback or summaries to the instructor as requested
- Coordinate with the instructor on course logistics, timelines, and adjustments
- Communication & Coordination
- Maintain clear, professional communication with students and the instructor
- Participate in planning or debriefing meetings with the instructor as needed
- Support the course’s alignment with the values of contemplative education, social justice, and ethical art therapy practice
- Masters degree in Art Therapy
- Comfortable with art materials and processes
- Responsible and reliable
- Good organizational and communication skills, including deep listening
