Director of Student Success in Mathematics
The University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder) invites applications for a Director of Student Success in Mathematics. This full-time position reports to the Dean of Natural Sciences in the College of Arts & Sciences and is collectively supported by the College of Arts and Sciences, the Office of Undergraduate Education, and the College of Engineering and Applied Science. The Director will work with campus leaders, staff, and faculty to coordinate efforts, resources, and strategies to create an ecosystem with shared responsibility for improving student success in mathematics.
The role involves strategic leadership, collaboration, and instructional innovation to enhance mathematics learning outcomes for all students. The position is a Teaching Professor (non-tenure track) with a joint appointment in the Department of Applied Mathematics (APPM) and the Department of Mathematics (MATH). The anticipated start date is July 1, 2026, with the possibility of an earlier start date.
- Provide leadership for coordination, assessment, and potential expansion of existing programs, learning centers, and supplemental instruction options to improve student success in mathematics, with a focus on increasing pass rates and engagement for all students.
- Lead a standing committee representing the APPM and MATH departments with participation from other departments with significant math requirements; review and provide recommendations on existing and new student success initiatives, focusing on introductory mathematics courses from Precalculus through Calculus 2.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff on research-based, innovative teaching practices and student-centered pedagogies, including workshops, training for new instructors, and events that foster faculty collaboration and promote student success in math.
- Contribute to ongoing improvement of math placement processes and strategies that promote retention and progress toward graduation.
- Conduct student surveys to gather feedback from students in APPM and MATH courses.
- Work with math departments, other math-specific programs, and the deans of Natural Sciences, College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and Undergraduate Education to promote undergraduate mathematics success.
- Coordinate with campus resources, such as academic advising, to direct students toward non-academic support they need, including transition from high school to college and maintaining mental well-being.
- Analyze and use data to inform decision-making and track the effectiveness of student success initiatives, including retention metrics and predictive analytics.
- Teach courses in the APPM and MATH departments with flexibility in teaching load as needs change.

What We Can OfferThe salary range for the Teaching Professor portion of this 12-month appointment is $85,000 – $100,000; additional compensation as director will be $25,000 – $30,000, commensurate with rank, experience, and other qualifications.

What We Require- A graduate degree in mathematics or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated extensive experience in instructional leadership, student success initiatives, or related roles within an academic setting.
- A minimum of five years of demonstrated success in teaching mathematics at the college level (excluding graduate student instruction).
- Experience teaching mathematics at the college level in the calculus sequence.
