FTE: 7.5 hrs/week
Compensation: $20 per hour and $1,125 scholarship for the academic year

Job Summary

The Naropa Writing Center's goal is to be an effective resource for all members of the Naropa community (student, staff, faculty, alumni) by providing a respectful, collaborative, and engaged learning environment for all writers. Our approach includes interactive sessions, asynchronous sessions for async students. Our writer‑to‑writer feedback and collaborations fosters analytic thinking, reading, and writing; and facilitates a space where writers may practice, experiment, and take risks without judgment.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Create and maintain a positive team environment and behave professionally with everyone encountered in the course and scope of the job duties.
  • Offer instructional support in the Writing Center and in the classroom when available.
  • Conduct online and in‑person consulting sessions with writers.
  • Conduct async writer‑to‑writer feedback sessions.
  • Aid with the day‑to‑day functioning of the Naropa Writing Center.
  • Attend program orientation: one full‑day training that occurs during the week preceding the start of the fall semester.
  • Attend professional development meetings once a month on Fridays.
  • Design one workshop for professional development.
  • Support COR classes with workshops.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
  • Must enroll in and successfully pass WRI
    700:
    Writing Pedagogy Seminar with an A- or better.

    an incomplete does not satisfy this requirement.
  • Ability to create and maintain a positive team environment and behave professionally and empathetically with everyone encountered in the course and scope of the job duties.
  • Demonstrate advanced writing ability.
  • Demonstrate potential for/compatibility with the NWC's pedagogy (constructivist, contemplative, experiential, process‑based).
  • Possess an interest in the study of writing pedagogy and practice, particularly in a writing center setting.
  • Have strong interpersonal, collaborative, and professional work skills, the ability to meticulously attend to details, and an initiative to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Have strong technological skills for online consulting sessions and operation of the online platform used by the NWC.
  • All job candidates must demonstrate an appropriate level of understanding of and appreciation for the values of Naropa University and the capacity to demonstrate an integration and embodiment of these values as evidenced in work, communication, collaboration styles, and other general workplace behaviors.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience with writing centers or teaching.
  • Previous training in the following areas: learning disabilities, multilingual speakers, diversity awareness, trauma‑informed pedagogy, research writing, and MLA/APA/CMS.
  • Incoming first‑year Jack Kerouac School MFA candidate.
Physical Requirements &

Environmental Conditions:

In the classrooms and on campus may experience: interruptions, distractions, heat, cold, dust and/or dampness. As a graduate assistant, you may spend extended periods time with any of the following:

  • Reading academic texts and materials, student papers, etc.
  • Operating personal computer and audio‑visual equipment.
  • Standing or sitting for hours at a time.
  • Moving around campus for classes and meetings.
