We Are

The Department of Psychology and Neuroscience has approximately 43 tenured/tenure‑track faculty and 12 teaching faculty. We offer separate bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Neuroscience to 3,700+ undergraduates and PhDs in 5 specialty graduate program areas (Behavioral Neuroscience;
Behavioral, Psychiatric, and Statistical Genetics; Clinical Psychology; Cognitive Psychology; and Social Psychology). We encourage cutting edge and collaborative research that transcends traditional disciplinary boundaries, while maintaining a firm footing in psychology and neuroscience.

What Your

Key Responsibilities Will Be
  • Serve as a course teaching assistant for NRSC 2200 Laboratory Techniques in Neuroscience.
  • Assist with one NRSC 2200 Laboratory Techniques in Neuroscience lab section.
  • Review course material prior to each lab, with sufficient understanding to teach students.
  • Teach one section of the lab (2 labs, ~4 hours) each week.
  • Handle all grading associated with the course, including feedback on student work.
  • Attend the weekly prep meeting and provide valuable input to others in the teaching team.
What You Should Know

In‑class time TuTh 2:35‑4:25 and weekly meeting on Monday morning. Additional hours for employee determined each week. Employment expectation is 10 hours of time each week, some synchronous work with the class and the professor, other aspects completed autonomously and remotely.

What We Require
  • Experience working as a Learning Assistant or Teaching Assistant in neuroscience or related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in neuroscience or related field.
What You Will Need

Competency in research methods and wet lab skills demonstrated through completion of bachelor’s degree in neuroscience or related field. Fundamental knowledge of molecular biology to be applied to RNA extraction, cDNA synthesis and quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Fundamental knowledge of neuroanatomy to be applied to sheep brain dissections, cresyl violet staining of rat brain tissue and immunohistochemistry. Pedagogical skills including learning models, facilitating student interactions, providing effective feedback, listening and compassion, learner‑centered teaching, and providing a safe and inclusive environment for learning.
