The Integrated Teaching and Learning Program (ITLP) within the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) at CU Boulder is seeking an Assistant Wood & Metal Shop Manager to support the day‑to‑day operation of the ITLP’s Manufacturing Center from December 15th, 2025 through April 17th, 2026. The Manufacturing Center is a student‑focused space for prototyping and hands‑on engineering projects. In this role, you will mentor and guide engineering students in the safe use of woodworking and metalworking tools.
While you will support all areas of fabrication, we are especially looking for someone with strong woodworking experience. You will oversee equipment maintenance and operation, lead safety and technical trainings, supervise student employees, and contribute to a welcoming and educational shop environment. This is a hands‑on, high‑impact position that blends technical expertise, instruction, and safety oversight. It is well suited for someone with fabrication experience who enjoys working directly with students and supporting their growth as engineers.

Key ResponsibilitiesStudent Support and Instruction:
- Provide hands‑on guidance to engineering students using woodworking and metalworking tools, equipment, and processes.
- Lead safety orientations and technical trainings on equipment such as saws, drill presses, routers, sanders, CNC router, and other woodworking tools.
- Assist with instructional workshops and support student learning in a collaborative, project‑based environment.
- Supervise student employees working in the Manufacturing Center, ensuring safety protocols and procedures are followed at all times.
Tool and Facility Management:
- Oversee day‑to‑day operations of the Manufacturing Center, maintaining a clean, safe, and organized environment.
- Maintain, repair, and calibrate woodworking equipment, including table saws, miter saws, band saws, planers, dust collection systems, and CNC routers.
- Support upkeep of metalworking tools and assist with CNC and machining‑related tasks as needed, in collaboration with other full‑time staff.
- Monitor and restock materials, tooling, and safety supplies as needed.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with faculty, staff, and ITLP team members to support design courses and fabrication projects.
- Share technical knowledge with students in a clear, supportive, and encouraging way.
- Help maintain shop signage, instructional materials, and communication channels to promote a student‑friendly, educational atmosphere.
- Undertake additional duties as assigned.
- Remain current on university safety policies and participate in professional development and departmental initiatives as needed.
