Job DescriptionThe Piping, Plumbing, and Mechanical Equipment Quality Assurance (QA) Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all piping, plumbing, and mechanical equipment systems in a life sciences construction project meet the required quality requirements in the design drawings, specification, standards, and codes. This role involves conducting monitoring contractors, inspections, reviewing documentation, and coordinating with project teams to maintain compliance throughout the construction lifecycle.
QualityAssurance & Control
- Review project documents (e.g., Safety, Site Quality Manual, ITPs, QVDs, specifications, drawings, applicable codes, standards, practices, and local regulations, etc.)
- Collaborate with sub-contractors to develop and implement inspection and test plans (ITPs) specific to piping and plumbing systems.
- Conduct inspections of piping installations including welds, bonds, soldering, supports, valves, routing, insulation, and testing.
- Inspect plumbing systems including water supply, drainage, and sanitary fixtures for proper installation and functionality.
- Inspect mechanical equipment systems including tanks, pumps, mixers, and agitators for proper installation and functionality.
- Verify sub-contractor’s compliance with project specifications, drawings, and applicable codes (e.g., ASME, ASTM, IPC, NFPA).
- Verify sub-contractor’s QC is monitoring, testing and documenting construction activities to ensure adherence to approved procedures and standards.
- Witness various testing activities (e.g., welding, bonding, soldering, pressure test, cleanroom validation/cleanroom certification, etc.).
- Maintain detailed records of inspections, non-conformances, corrective actions, quality verification documents (QVDs), and test results.
- Prepare daily and weekly surveillance reports for project stakeholders.
- Review contractor submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings for quality compliance.
- Interface with contractors, engineers, and project managers to resolve quality issues.
- Participate in quality-related meetings and provide input on construction readiness and compliance.
- Support turnover activities by reviewing documentation, monitoring sub-contractor’s system walking downs, verifying punch list completion and final inspections.
- Safety First, comply with company safety requirements.
- Attend safety meetings, contractor’s JSA/STA meeting.
- Participate in safety programs.
- Provide safety topics and suggestions in meetings.
- Ensure all work complies with plumbing codes, life sciences industry standards (e.g., GMP, FDA), and safety regulations.
- Identify and report unsafe practices or conditions during inspections.
- Other related duties may be assigned.
Job Requirements
- Accredited two (2) or three (3) year Technical or Engineering Technology diploma or global equivalent in applicable field of study and ten (10) years of work‑related experience or a combination of education and directly related experience equal to twelve (12) years if there is no accreditation; some locations may have additional or different qualifications in order to comply with local regulations.
- Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors.
- Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job.
- Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines.
- Ability to attend to detail and work in a time‑conscious and time‑effective manner.
Job Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience in piping, plumbing, and mechanical equipment inspection, preferably in life sciences, pharmaceutical, or biotech projects.
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector certification (CWI).
- Certifications such as ASME, IPC, or equivalent are preferred.
- Strong knowledge of piping systems, plumbing installations, mechanical equipment and QA/QC procedures.
