Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Critical Clean Lab Technician to join our team at BAE Systems, a leading manufacturer of innovative aerospace systems. As a Critical Clean Lab Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining a clean and controlled environment in our laboratory facilities, ensuring the integrity of our research and testing operations. This is a critical role that requires attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
The Operations Strategic Capabilities Unit plays a fundamental role in enabling efficient business and program execution – from strategic capital investments, industrial operations and an efficient supply chain, to state-of-the‑art manufacturing and test operations and top‑notch facilities management.
What You’ll Do:- Clean laboratory equipment, surfaces, and facilities to prevent contamination and ensure a safe working environment
- Precision cleaning of hardware, assemblies and subassemblies
- Stringent post‑cleaning verification testing is required
- Working in a clean environment, using cleanroom operations best practices
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning tasks in accordance with laboratory protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Utilize cleaning agents and solvents, equipment, and supplies in accordance with laboratory safety protocols and environmental regulations
- Maintain accurate records of cleaning activities, including date, time, and details of tasks performed
- Participate in training and education programs to stay up to date on laboratory safety protocols, cleaning and procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Work with solvents, acids and bases, and using personal protective equipment, gloves, and safety glasses
- Perform work area maintenance activities, including area organization, chemical handling, and chemical replenishment
- Perform NVR (Non‑Volatile Residue) testing on cleaned hardware and assemblies
- Manual particle counting using various techniques and equipment
- Automated particle counting using specialized equipment and software
- Support other manufacturing shops, including but not limited to:
- Lube lab:
- Read and interpret mechanical blueprints to determine surface preparation, masking, and lubrication requirements.
- Cleaning and lubrication of motors, gearboxes, and disassembly and re‑assembly of complex bearings.
- Packaging hardware to maintain critical levels of cleanliness.
- Metal Finish:
- Anodizing, chromate conversion coating, etching and passivation.
- Exact masking standards are required for many of the processes.
- Lube lab:
- Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Perform other duties as necessary.
This position requires regular in‑person engagement by working on‑site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel and local commute between company campuses and other possible non‑company locations may be required.
Working Conditions- Work is performed in an office environment, laboratory, cleanroom, or production floor.
- High School diploma or equivalent plus 1 year or more related experience.
- Each higher‑level related degree, i.e., Bachelor’s or Master’s, may substitute for two years of related experience. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education, U.S. Department of Education.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to lift 25 pounds and work in a standing position for long periods.
- Ability to work in a controlled environment with temperature, humidity, and cleanliness controls.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and regulations (e.g., OSHA, CDC, EPA).
