Summary:

The Colorado Chapter is seeking an energetic and dedicated professional to serve as its full-time Senior Associate Director of Development. An individual with proven success in relational philanthropy and leadership, who works best in a fast-paced environment and enjoys being on the go and out with donors. This is a new position within The Nature Conservancy in Colorado that will provide strategic, inspired leadership to a team of out-the-door fundraising staff in addition to personally managing a small portfolio of donors and prospects.

This individual will raise $2M or more annually while also managing members of the Colorado development team toward an annual team goal of $10M - $20M. Working closely with the Director of Philanthropy, the Senior Associate Director of Development will directly engage with high net-worth donors and inspire a development team toward success.

Qualifications:

  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree plus 7 years related experience.
  • Experience supervising staff and managing goal achievement.
  • Experience building and maintaining long-term relationships with constituents such as major donors and corporations.
  • Track record of cultivating and closing major or planned gifts of $100,000 or more.
  • Experience, coursework or other training in current and evolving trends in charitable giving, particularly in the area of campaigns, major gifts and planned giving.

Responsibilities:

  • Directly manage a portfolio of up to 30 donors, including those with the capacity to give over $1M. Responsible for 60-90 moves annually, including 20-30 visits. Annual fundraising goal of $2M or more, along with a goal for planned gift notifications and new prospect qualifications.
  • Supervise out-the-door fundraising staff.
  • Financial accountability for setting and meeting personal and team fundraising targets, reliably projecting and evaluating results and developing corrective strategies as needed.
  • Plan and lead collaborative and complex programs or initiatives that will ensure departmental goals are achieved.
  • Decisions may have program-wide impact, affect staff in non-program areas, and bind the organization financially or legally.
  • Act independently and resolve complex issues within scope.
  • Direct or participate in negotiations for complex, high profile or sensitive agreements.
  • Maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive and emotionally charged information.
  • Persuasively convey the mission of The Nature Conservancy to diverse groups important to the organization’s overall prosperity.
  • Minimize legal and reputational risk to the Conservancy and ensure compliance with all applicable external regulations, TNC policies, financial and ethical standards.
  • Follow standard operating procedures and proficiently use Conservancy systems, including collaboration tools and constituent management databases.
  • Travel occasionally and work flexible hours, including long hours and weekends as needed.
  • Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain.
