Boulder Community Health is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider who provides primary trauma surgical care and performs selective surgical services under the direction of a physician. The position is responsible for practicing medicine with physician supervision, including conducting exams and writing prescriptions. Within a physician NP or PA relationship, APP's exercise autonomy in medical decision-making and provides a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services.
The role will focus on the care of our trauma patients, and will assist in pre‑ and post‑operative care, admission and discharge processes, post‑hospital follow‑up and documentation in compliance with joint commissions requirements. This role will collaborate with nursing to develop standards of care and education to best care for trauma patients and be involved in quality improvement for this population.
Surgical assistance in the OR and with procedures will be on an as‑needed basis as requested by surgeons. The focus of this role will be trauma patients but may involve general and acute care patients as needed.

- Graduation from a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program as required by licensure.
- Active Colorado Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner License is required.
- Credentialed by the Boulder Community Hospital Medical Staff Office is required.
- BLS and ACLS certification required within 3 months of start date.
- Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) certification is preferred
- One year of trauma, surgical critical care, or general surgery experience is required, with 3 or more years preferred.
- Obtains complete medical history and physical data on patients. Reviews patient records.
- Interprets and integrates data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures needed.
- Performs complete physical exam and records findings.
- Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.
- Synthesizes data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan utilizing principles of prevention.
- Prepares written prescription orders for drugs.
- Assists in the transition of care from inpatient to outpatient settings.
- Completes written sign‑outs when going of shift and interim summaries when going off service.
- Interviews and advises patients regarding health and illness prevention.
- Instructs patients and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
- Assists physicians by recording patient progress notes. Issue diagnostic orders and transcribe orders.
- Triages patient telephone calls and provides consultation.
- Performs independent evaluations and treatment procedures in emergency situations.
- Ability to assess, diagnose, and treat all ages served.
- Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.
- Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
- Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
