FOOD SERV Substitute Kitchen Satellite Lead (Job ) – Boulder Valley School District, Boulder, CO

The Kitchen Satellite Lead (KSL) is responsible for ordering and receiving food and supplies, maintaining monthly inventories, creating and preserving production records using Horizon Software, and preparing and serving meals at school locations. The KSL operates Point of Sale software to record meal sales, collect monies, process bank deposits, and close out end‑of‑day operations.

• Understands and communicates the BVSD Food Services Program philosophy and informs staff and the school community of the District Wellness Policy, meals, food sources, recipes and overall Food Services program goals on a daily basis.
• Participates in the timely preparation of meals according to the planned menu and prescribed recipes, including proper reheating of main courses, side dishes and salad bar preparation according to BVSD FS Department Standard Operating Procedures.
• Maintains accurate inputting of orders, receiving, inventory and production/meal count data.
• Ensures freshness of prepared items by implementing proper rotation and labeling of food items, preparing only the amounts assigned.
• Participates in and maintains cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen, cafeteria and storage areas under the FS Department, including walk‑ins, refrigeration, freezers, dry storage and the FS site office.
• Participates in meal service periods as server or cashier, depending on school site needs.
• Maintains efficient service flow and works closely with coworkers to provide a pleasant dining experience for students, staff and faculty, ensuring USDA compliance.
• Maintains accurate reporting of sales transactions, account balances, collections and daily deposit slips, reports and deposits using Horizon POS software.
• Records and maintains temperature logs for equipment, food production and transport, complying with HACCP, Serv Safe, safety and sanitation regulations.
• Uses and maintains institutional kitchen equipment such as ovens, steamers and commercial dishwashers.
• Fosters district commitment to excellence and equity by valuing all employees and students.
• Establishes positive relations with internal and external customers, including students, staff, school administration, parents and community members.
• Trains new Food Service Assistants and provides ongoing training for all kitchen staff; directs the work of FSAs within the assigned kitchen.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Completed and submitted BVSD online application.
• Excellent communication skills in English (reading, writing, speaking) and successful completion of the English component of the interview process.
• Successful completion of the post‑offer physical exam.
• Successful completion of the Math Test at entry.
• Successful completion of the FS Online Training Assessment during the probationary period.
• Proficient operation of kitchen equipment upon hire.
• Working knowledge of Horizon Software (shopping list, inventory and production modules) within 3 months of hire.
• Working knowledge of QSP Point of Sale software within 3 months of hire.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. on a frequent basis.
