Overview
A Court Security Deputy works as a uniformed, sworn, firearms‑qualified deputy with the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office. The position provides entrance screening, building security, public assistance and law‑enforcement duties to maintain a safe, lawful, and secure environment at the Boulder County Justice Center and the Longmont Courthouse. Shift schedules vary, with some shifts during regular county business hours and early morning/late evening assignments.
Overtime opportunities exist as needed.
$81,828.00 – $ annually ($6,819 – $9,532 monthly).

Responsibilities- Screen individuals at the Boulder and Longmont courthouses for weapons, contraband and ensure security of facilities and properties.
- Makes arrests in courthouses upon court order and conducts investigations.
- Issues tickets for parking ordinance violations.
- Completes reports documenting enforcement activities.
- Serves civil papers.
- Monitors and responds to emergency situations: panic alarms, disturbances and medical emergencies.
- Helps resolve volatile situations or other security concerns with people suffering from medical, mental health or other emergencies.
- Performs related work as required.
- May be reassigned in case of emergency situation.
- Armed deputy; be or become firearms qualified (handgun, rifle, less‑lethal shotgun).
- Pass the Jail Division Essential Job Demands (EJD) test.
- Must be P.O.S.T. certified or certifiable.
- Carry at least one approved intermediate weapon or Taser; maintain qualification and training standards.
- Preferred: rifle qualification through firearms program.
- Preferred: willingness to attend Crisis Intervention Training.
- Minimum 21 years old.
- No felony convictions or arrests for felonies.
- No drug use in the past three years.
- No domestic violence convictions or active restraining orders.
- Valid driver’s license with clean record; no DUI/DWAI convictions within 24 months or more than one lifetime conviction.
- Compliance with Boulder County policy on marijuana use.
Skills and Abilities
- Basic knowledge of law‑enforcement procedures and techniques.
- Working knowledge of emergency first aid procedures.
- Ability to work effectively with other employees, agencies and the public.
- Proficiency with computers for official government reports.
Applicants must be able to see and hear with minimum required standards, lift up to 150 lbs, walk, run, climb stairs and perform manual tasks. Specific criteria include:
- Vision: 20/20 minimum, both eyes; 70% peripheral vision.
