Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without hidden fees or compounding interest. The Credit Decisioning team provides scalable underwriting decisions for integrated point‑of‑sale (POS) merchants and wallet platforms across the US, Canada, and the UK. This specific role is within the Credit Expansion sub‑team, focusing on responsibly increasing access to credit while ensuring consistent decision‑making for our users.
Working closely with cross‑functional partners, this role offers an opportunity to work on launches that have a significant business impact.
- Break down larger projects into individual tasks, deliver them in multiple phases, and collaborate with others to ensure timely delivery.
- Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics by participating in ideation, articulating technical constraints, and partnering on decisions that properly consider risks and trade‑offs.
- Monitor metrics, support “keep the lights on” and on‑call efforts to maintain team artifacts, and respond to escalations when needed.
- Engage in growth and development activities, such as contributing to the interview process, to build a sense of community.
- 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer.
- Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems, proficient in Python or Kotlin.
- Familiarity with distributed systems building blocks and technologies such as AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
- Strong problem‑solving skills, delivering clear, well‑tested, and extensible code.
- Comfort navigating large code bases, debugging others’ code, and providing feedback via code reviews.
- Ownership of growth, proactively seeking feedback from team, manager, and stakeholders.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills supporting effective collaboration with a global engineering team.
- Either a Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
Base pay ranges: $160,000 – $210,000 per year in CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT; $142,000 – $192,000 per year in all other U.S. states. Total compensation may include equity, monthly stipends for health, wellness, and tech spending, and benefits such as 100% subsidized medical coverage, dental, and vision.
