Job Summary
The Recreation Services team at the University of Colorado, Boulder is accepting applications for a Fitness Coordinator
. This position is responsible for collaborative leadership and support of comprehensive fitness and wellness programming, including program development, management, and delivery of personal training, group fitness, instructional and special events. The Fitness Coordinator will assist with strategic forecasting, risk management, fiscal oversight, policy development, staff hiring, training, and outreach to internal and external partners to ensure compliance and operational success.

The Division of Student Life comprises 30 departments dedicated to supporting student success. Our 900+ staff members provide services that help students live, eat, connect, and grow. The Recreation Services unit promotes healthy lifestyles through facilities and programs such as the LEED Platinum Student Rec Center, satellite centers, outdoor courts, and a variety of activities including ice skating, rock climbing, sports, yoga, and aquatics.
Responsibilities- Develop, manage, and implement the Fitness & Wellness Program, aligning outcomes with institutional goals.
- Assess, design, and refine high‑quality group fitness programs; supervise staff and provide ongoing training.
- Collaborate with Recreation Services departments for special classes, training, and workshops.
- Create and implement an annual curriculum for personal trainer and group fitness instructor development.
- Assist Fit Well office staff with support for instructors and trainers.
- Maintain fitness statistics and provide quarterly and annual reports on participation.
- Serve as backup for the Senior Assistant Director of Fitness & Wellness.
- Use assessment tools to address area challenges, resolving issues independently and communicating solutions.
- Work with Student Life Marketing & Communications on media and promotional needs.
- Supervise 65+ student and non‑student hourly employees, oversee hiring, onboarding, and pay.
- Assess and evaluate group fitness and personal trainers annually; lead the Personal Training Prep course each semester.
- Support fiscal operations of programs in collaboration with Student Life Business Services; track budgets and manage inventory.
- Assist in implementing risk management protocols and ensure safety of activities and facilities.
- Provide on‑site event management for special events; secure waivers and conduct health form reviews.
- Collaborate with internal and external program areas; attend staff meetings and departmental committees.
- Ensure facility, equipment, and program standards meet or exceed department quality criteria.
- Participate in coordinated trainings focused on leadership, access, and community building.
The shift schedule may require work from 11 am‑7 pm and occasional weekends.

What We Require- Bachelor’s degree and at least one year of fitness programming experience (education and experience may substitute).
- Certification: ACE, AFAA, NASM, or NSCA in Group Fitness and/or Personal Training.
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification or ability to obtain within three months.
- Solid understanding of the fitness industry related to group fitness and personal training.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, think critically, and make independent decisions.
- Detail‑oriented documentation skills and effective communication in high‑stress situations.
- Organizational and prioritization skills with little or no supervision.
- Leadership ability in projects, events, and committees.
