REED Practice are actively recruiting a Tax & Payroll Assistant to join a small practice based in Bournemouth. This is an established firm, with the Director looking to support the Tax Manager with an additional member of staff. The role includes delivering high-quality tax compliance and payroll services to a diverse client base, as well as assisting with tax return preparation, payroll processing, and ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations.

Tax & Payroll Assistant

Bournemouth

Full Time (Flexible start and finish time around 37 hours)

Salary £28,000 - £32,000 per annum

Key Responsibilities

Tax Duties

  • Assist in the preparation of personal and business tax returns (Self Assessment, Corporation Tax, etc.)
  • Gather and organise client financial information for tax purposes
  • Process weekly, fortnightly, and monthly payrolls for multiple clients
  • Calculate wages, overtime, bonuses, statutory payments (SSP, SMP, etc.)
  • Administer PAYE, National Insurance, and other deductions
  • Ensure timely submission of RTI (Real Time Information) to HMRC

General Practice Support

  • Assist with client onboarding and data entry
  • Maintain organised and accurate client files
  • Support senior staff with administrative and compliance tasks
  • Communicate professionally with clients, HMRC, and third parties
  • Ensure adherence to internal processes and confidentiality standards

Essential

  • Previous experience in an accountancy practice or payroll/tax role
  • Knowledge of UK tax and payroll regulations
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good organisational and time management skills
  • Proficiency in accounting and payroll software (e.g., Sage, Xero, Quick Books, Bright Pay)
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
