Internal colleagues are also normally appointed at the bottom of the band, unless moving within the same profession and skill level, where the pay band is the same they can be appointed to the existing pay point.

We are recruiting an Apprentice Trading Standards Enforcement Officer to support the enforcement of tobacco and vape legislation while developing the knowledge and skills needed for a career in Trading Standards.

The successful candidate will undertake the Level 6 Trading Standards Professional (Tobacco & Vape) Apprenticeship while working as part of the Trading Standards Team. Although the primary focus of the role will be tobacco and vape compliance, the post will also provide wider exposure to Trading Standards work to support broader professional development.

The post is full‑time and will involve both remote‑working and working from BCP Civic Centre in Bournemouth with access to other BCP office locations.

This is a varied and rewarding opportunity that will offer valuable experience, professional development, and the chance to contribute to important work that protects local communities.

• undertaking investigations and enforcement visits
• carrying out test purchase operations to identify non‑compliance
• advising and educating businesses
• taking formal action where appropriate, including the seizure of products
• drafting witness statements, preparing reports, and assisting with case file preparation.

You may occasionally be required to work outside normal core hours, including weekend working where necessary.

To be considered, you will need a commitment to undertaking the study required to successfully complete the Level 6 Apprenticeship.

This post is a fixed‑term appointment for the duration of the apprenticeship, 24 – 29 months approximately. It includes time within working hours to support completion of the required studies; however, the successful candidate will also be expected to undertake study in their own time.

A full UK driving licence and a DBS check are required for this post.
