Position: Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

Overview

We provide specialist education for pupils aged 5-11 with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. We are a nurturing, inclusive, and forward-thinking school where every child is supported to achieve their best—academically, socially, and emotionally.

We pride ourselves on creating a safe, engaging learning environment that helps pupils re-engage with education, develop confidence, and prepare for future success.

The Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our committed team. You will play a key role in supporting teaching and learning, delivering small group and individual interventions, and leading whole-class sessions under the direction of the class teacher.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people who may have previously struggled in mainstream education.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver lessons by following the teacher’s lesson plans
  • Lead interventions to help pupils achieve academic and social targets
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing in line with the school’s ethos
  • Support pupils with SEMH needs in developing resilience and self-regulation skills
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff
  • Contribute to planning, assessment, and review of pupil progress
About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds HLTA status
  • Has experience working with children with SEMH or additional learning needs
  • Is patient, resilient, and able to build positive, trusting relationships
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Is committed to inclusive education and continuous professional development

If you are a dedicated, compassionate, and motivated professional who is passionate about helping every child reach their potential, we would love to hear from you.

The start date is listed as December but we are looking for someone who can start ASAP, subject to vetting.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.

Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ – this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
