Teaching Assistant – SEN College, Bournemouth
We are recruiting for an experienced Teaching Assistant to join a residential SEN college in Bournemouth catering for young people aged 16–25 with Asperger's or high‑functioning autism. This is a full‑time, term‑time, temp‑to‑perm contract, starting ASAP.
Role OverviewThe successful candidate will support pupils on a 1:1 and small‑group basis, helping them to achieve their individual learning plans. Many learners display challenging behaviour and mental health conditions, so the ideal candidate will be calm, empathetic and encouraging.
Key Responsibilities- Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support to pupils with SEN, particularly those with autism or Asperger’s.
- Support learners to develop functional, vocational, academic and personal skills.
- Facilitate community‑living opportunities and other learning activities.
- Manage and support pupils who exhibit challenging behaviour and may have mental health issues.
- Collaborate with teachers and support staff to implement individual learning plans.
- Previous experience working in a school support position, ideally with pupils with SEN.
- Experience with autism or Asperger’s learners is desirable.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with a calm and encouraging approach.
40 hours per week, term‑time only. Salary is £14.24 per hour on supply. After 12 weeks, the position becomes permanent with an annual salary of £22,674.64.
