St. Peter’s School is seeking a Teaching Assistant (Secondary) to support students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) during term time. The role involves 22 hours per week, paid at £12,808 per annum pending pay award.
Working Hours- Mon 8:50am – 1:30pm (4h 40m)
- Tues 9:10am – 1:30pm (4h 20m)
- Weds 9:10am – 1:30pm (4h 20m)
- Thurs 9:10am – 1:30pm (4h 20m)
- Fri 9:10am – 1:30pm (4h 20m)
- Support classroom management and organization, including students with a Statement of SEN and the class as a whole.
- Create and maintain a purposeful, orderly and supportive learning environment.
- Promote inclusion of all students, ensuring equal access to learning opportunities.
- Safeguard the welfare of children and young people within the school.
- Provide pastoral and learning support to students with a Statement of SEN.
- Deliver feedback on student progress and achievement.
- Develop productive relationships with students, acting as a role model.
- Collaborate with the SENCO and teachers to develop and implement advisory notes and behaviour support plans.
- Assist with behaviour management strategies, proactive management, and promotion of self‑control, independence and integration.
- Support student transitions and accompany teachers on educational visits.
- Complete administrative tasks and prepare displays with the classroom teacher.
- Maintain awareness of and comply with child protection, health & safety, security and confidentiality policies.
- Contribute to the school’s ethos, work and mission statement as directed by the Headteacher.
- Act as Lead Teaching Assistant for assigned students, managing advisory notes, reporting and parent communication.
- Participate in the school’s performance management system.
- Attend three in‑house training sessions per year, with additional CPD opportunities available.
- Undergo observation by the performance manager at least once per year.
- Experience in supporting students with SEN is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of the Code of Practice and inclusive teaching strategies.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Commitment to safeguarding and child protection.
- To be subject to an Enhanced DBS check.
- Must have the right to work in the UK and be able to provide this as part of the appointment process.
The position is term‑time only (39 weeks) and requires availability for the dates listed above. The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff, students, parents and the SENCO to ensure the best outcomes for pupils with SEN.
