At Teach South, we are working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Bournemouth to recruit a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of children who require additional emotional and behavioural support to reach their full potential.

Asan SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, providing tailored support both within the classroom and through targeted interventions. You will help create a safe, nurturing and engaging learning environment, enabling pupils to develop confidence, resilience and positive relationships.

Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships that promote emotional wellbeing.
  • Support pupils in managing behaviour through positive behaviour strategies.
  • Work alongside teachers, SEND staff and external professionals to deliver personalised support.
  • Encourage pupil engagement, independence and participation in learning.
  • Assist with implementing individual support plans and behaviour strategies.
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff.
Ideal Candidate
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND, autism, ADHD or challenging behaviour is desirable.
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to remain positive and adaptable in a dynamic school environment.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children to achieve their potential.
  • Relevant qualifications are welcomed but not essential; experience and the right attitude are equally valued.
