SEMH Mentor

Department: Recruitment - South

Employment Type: Flexible

Location: Bournemouth, Dorset

Compensation: £25.00 - £36.00 / hour

Description

Could you be the person to guide young people with SEN and SEMH needs to a brighter future?

At Fresh Start in Education, we’re looking for proactive, person-centred people to design and deliver 1:1 personalised learning sessions for young people of all ages in the Poole area. Whether it’s supporting a college student with their online studies and enabling them to go out and about in the community more confidently, or helping a primary school child with limited communication skills to access education, you’ll help students build resilience and explore their next steps.

One learner, one relationship, one small step at a time.

If you are looking for a flexible, rewarding role with allowances for travel and resources and support from our dedicated teams, we would love to hear from you.

What you'll be doing:
  • Providing 1:1 or 2:1 support to children and young people in their homes or other settings in the Dorset area
  • Planning and delivering learning and engagement opportunities that reflect each learner’s needs, interests and abilities
  • Running sessions during the school day (term time only) that typically last 3 to 5 hours
  • Engaging with students who may have autism, ADHD or SEMH needs and helping them achieve outcomes at their pace
  • Working flexibly as part of a compassionate, expert-led team that values you and your skills
Who we’re looking for:

We welcome applications from people who have:

  • Experience (at least 1 year) as mentors, teachers, teaching assistants, SEN specialists and education professionals who have directly supported young people with SEN/SEMH needs
  • A background in Primary, Secondary, Functional Skills or Post 16 teaching, or specialist SEND environments
  • Emotional regulation and de-escalation skills
  • A minimum of 2 consistent weekdays available
  • An up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding and child protection

Experience with young adults with mental health needs, or with younger children with communication needs, will be particularly valued.

What you can expect from Fresh Start in

Education:
  • £25-£36 per hour, depending on experience
  • £15 per session resources allowance and travel subsidy
  • Free access to counselling and wellbeing services and pension options
  • Dedicated line manager, support and inclusion in a supportive, expert team
  • Bank staff role (PAYE), offering both short-term and long-term placements
