The Technical Manager leads the stage department, welcoming and coordinating incoming productions and managing a diverse team of back‑of‑house staff and freelancers. The role ensures the smooth operation of a wide variety of live performances, from high‑profile shows to late‑night club events, and works closely with the General Manager to maintain excellence in all stage and technical operations.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee stage and technical management for all shows and events.
- Recruit, schedule, and manage back‑of‑house employees and crew.
- Act as the first point of contact for production and technical fulfilment on all incoming productions.
- Lead day‑to‑day compliance with company guidelines and working practices for all employees and visitors.
- Drive practical application of Health & Safety protocols.
- Prepare and manage departmental budget.
- Maintain the company asset register for all in‑house technical equipment.
- Ensure technical equipment is maintained to highest standards and supervise service regimes, PAT testing, and technical maintenance reports.
- Provide first‑class client and customer service and attend all pre‑show safety briefings with venue management.
- Experience in stage or production management.
- Expertise in event production and technical riders.
- Extensive knowledge of health and safety regulations and risk assessments.
- Proven track record of diary management and rota systems.
- Excellent communication and diplomacy skills.
- Proficiency in IT and Microsoft Office packages.
- Demonstrable leadership and motivation of others.
- Enthusiasm for the live events and production industry.
- Flexibility to work irregular hours (weekends, evenings, public holidays).
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail.
- Willingness to build positive working relationships.
- Proactive leadership in problem‑solving and negotiation.
- Ability to meet the demands of stage management in a live environment.
- Exemplary standards of technical production.
