About Dorset Mind

Dorset Mind is a charity dedicated to promoting mental health and wellbeing across Dorset. We work alongside individuals, families, and communities to provide inclusive, person-centred support and to challenge stigma and discrimination. Through storytelling, awareness-raising, and advocacy, we aim to ensure mental health is understood, respected, and supported at all levels of society.

Main Scope of the Role

The Community Fundraiser will lead and deliver local fundraising initiatives across Blandford and Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole (BCP). The postholder will build and manage relationships with local supporters, community groups, volunteers, and businesses to increase income for Dorset Mind. This role includes managing a network of fundraising promoters and volunteers, delivering local events, and collaborating with the wider Income Generation team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop the Dorset Mind’s calendar of fundraising events, including new community initiatives and third-party participation, to grow income across Blandford and BCP.
  • Identify opportunities to attend local events, fairs, and community activities to raise awareness and encourage fundraising support.
  • Develop and deliver unique activations to use at fundraising events.
  • Forge links with local groups (groups, clubs, societies, schools) to speak at events and engage new supporters.
  • Develop and manage relationships with individuals, groups, and local businesses who fundraise for Dorset Mind, building a loyal and engaged network.
  • Maximise income from existing fundraising relationships and identify new opportunities to increase local fundraising income.
  • Facilitate the distribution of fundraising equipment for events.
  • Work within a budget to manage fundraising kit and stock for activations.
Corporate & Community Partnerships
  • Work with the Income Generation department to develop and implement a corporate fundraising strategy, adhering to agreed targets and plans.
  • Generate and manage a strong pipeline of local businesses and sponsors, securing long-term support with a clear commercial focus.
  • Act as an internal champion of community fundraising, influencing and inspiring colleagues and key stakeholders to support fundraising activities.
  • Manage and coordinate a network of local fundraising volunteers and promoters, providing guidance, training, and motivation.
  • Maintain excellent stewardship to strengthen fundraiser loyalty and develop a strong community of supporters.
  • Maintain accurate records of fundraising activities, volunteers, donors, and income using Beacon CRM.
  • Ensure the security of sensitive personal and confidential information.
Collaboration & Internal Relations
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues in fundraising, communications, marketing, and other departments.
  • Work with the volunteer fundraising team to deliver and attend fundraising events.
  • Keep up to date with Dorset Mind’s services and funding needs, sharing knowledge to support fundraising activities.
Professional Development & Compliance
  • Keep up to date with best practice and developments in corporate and community fundraising.
  • Identify personal and team learning and development needs, attending training and courses as required.
  • Undertake other reasonable duties as required, which may include some out-of-hours work for events, meetings, or campaigns.
